The HILL is a 172,000-square-foot adaptive reuse project in downtown Lexington. This building will consolidate the Southside and Eastside technical centers into one location.
The HVAC systems utilize (200) two hundred, 500’ geothermal vertical bores tied into a central station dedicated outside air units with demand control ventilation and variable speed water source heat pumps.
The electrical systems design includes brand new infrastructure, new LED lighting and lighting controls, new power, new data (wireless & wired), cable trays, generators, security systems, fire alarm systems, and access control.
Spaces in the former Herald-Leader building, which Fayette County Public Schools has fully renovated, include administration areas on each floor for easier student support, labs and classrooms, and collaborative breakout areas. The building also features energy-efficient design, a priority for the district.
Students have already taken the lead in shaping their learning spaces — choosing classroom seating, designing flexible shared spaces, and selecting materials that enhance collaboration and creativity. Students also contribute to other key decisions, ensuring a school built for and by them.
