A 2017 AIA Honor Award Winner, this showcase blended a beautiful restoration of a 1904 Carnegie library with a contemporary structure complementary to modern library uses. This project renovates an existing 6,000 sq. ft. historic building in downtown Paris, Kentucky, and adds a 14,000 sq. ft. expansion to create flexible library and community spaces that support a wide range of programming.
The MEP systems incorporate a classical geothermal 400-foot vertical bore field. The depth was extended to 400 feet to accommodate urban property line restrictions. Geothermal was chosen as the HVAC system so as to hide mechanical equipment and accommodate historic site lines and architectural features.
