STW provided mechanical and electrical engineering services for the renovation of the Behavioral Health Unit at Appalachian Regional Healthcare’s Harlan facility. The project focused on modernizing critical HVAC infrastructure within an occupied healthcare environment, improving system reliability, indoor air quality, and patient comfort while supporting uninterrupted facility operations. The design included replacing aging air-handling equipment, upgrading the hydronic system, integrating advanced building controls, and implementing a carefully phased construction strategy tailored to the operational needs of a behavioral health facility. Working closely with the owner, architectural team, and contractors, STW delivered a practical, energy-conscious solution that enhances the long-term performance and maintainability of this important healthcare resource serving Eastern Kentucky.
