Howser Hall is a 1980’s dormitory on the campus of the Kentucky School for the Blind in Louisville, KY. Before the $3,600,000 renovation began, the building had been decommissioned and was unoccupied.
STW was part of the team providing a major upgrade to the 44,000-square-foot building, including replacing all cast-iron piping, upgrading the existing living/sleeping quarters, and upgrading the electrical and HVAC systems. The lighting and controls were specifically designed to provide highly adjustable levels to accommodate occupants.
When completed, Howser Hall provided modern living quarters for 48 students, ages kindergarten through high school. The updated building included an infirmary, meeting areas, a common area, a kitchenette, and independent living suites to help teach students how to live independently.
