Founded in 1960, the IU Lilly Library is an important rare books and manuscript library located on the Indiana University Campus. The building was a complete interior renovation, including the addition of a new elevator, office spaces, and exhibition areas.
The building’s mechanical and electrical systems were original to the building and were part of a complete upgrade to a new, highly efficient and effective system. Plant chilled water and steam are used for a VAV system that maintains very strict temperature and humidity tolerances continuously throughout the year. Due to the extensive rare book collection, the building is designed to operate between 68 and 72 degrees with a 45-50 percent relative humidity year-round. Energy wheels, chilled water, and clean steam were all utilized to maintain such tight tolerances.
