The new Scott County High School was designed to replace the existing high school and become the second new high school for Scott County. The three-story school was built to accommodate 1,500 students and included an on-site athletic complex. SCHS offered numerous career and technical education programs, such as business, agriculture, and family and consumer science, for vocational students.
A high-efficiency geothermal heat pump system was installed, consisting of 306 wells, 6 energy recovery units, and a primary/secondary pumping design. The mechanical system featured 117 variable-speed water-source heat pump units, with outside air controlled via Demand Control Ventilation using carbon dioxide monitoring and VAV Boxes. The full HVAC system was managed by a direct digital control system.
The energy code-compliant lighting system consisted of 100% LED fixtures and a digital lighting control system that used daylight and occupancy sensing, along with owner-preferred time clock settings. Digitally controlled sound systems were installed in the auditorium, gymnasium, cafeteria, media center, and band and choir rooms. The entire facility was protected by a digital, addressable voice-evacuation fire alarm system, integrated with the fire protection and sprinkler system.
