STW first worked with LFUCG on a feasibility study of this station. STW provided mechanical, plumbing, and electrical engineering for the new $5,240,000, 11,000-square-foot station. The facility included vehicle and equipment storage, as well as sleeping and living quarters for up to fourteen staff. Additionally, the new station housed staff offices, a wellness facility, and general fire station supplies.
The HVAC system was an air-source Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) heat recovery system with an energy recovery outside-air unit and a variable-flow kitchen exhaust system. The apparatus bays employ a variable-flow, direct-connect vehicle exhaust system with sliding track hose reels. The adjacent gear room was designed to limit the amount of exposure to carcinogens and included a full exhaust and make-up air system with activated carbon filtration and high-volume, low-speed circulation fans for more complete removal of contaminants.
The electrical distribution included an emergency generator to provide full power to the building. All lighting systems were energy-efficient LED, with automatic lighting controls and paging systems interfaced with the station alert radio to activate on call. Card access control was also provided for building security.
